Women; The decision makers- Better Investors
A recent online article highlights the fact that women are better than most men at, well, almost everything they do. The article points out that women are better investors because they are not the risk takers, as men tend to be. When they do get a penny they will squeeze it until Lincoln screams!
With most women, you don’t have to get the ego out of the way before you can get down to business. We are more level headed than men. Point proven by the recent scandals that rocked the news media. Todd Thomson, young, married, chief financial officer at Citigroup Inc. C -1.00% , was embroiled in a scandal a few years ago with money honey Maria Bartiromo of CNBC. Her career survived. His didn’t. There’s Dominique Strauss-Kahn of the International Monetary Fund, who’s accused of sexual assault. There’s James McDermott, who was CEO of Keefe Bruyette & Woods until a dalliance with a porn star named Marylyn Star embarrassed him out of the company. Let’s not forget the most recent idiot, Congressman Wiener. Will this guy ever learn?!
I agree with the columnist when he stated, “Men just make bad decisions!” The sad thing is, some repeat the same bad decisions, over and over. Hence definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
A new study by Barclays Capital and Ledbury Research found that women were more likely to make money in the market, mostly because they didn’t take as many risks. They bought and held. Women trade this way because they aren’t as confident — or perhaps as overconfident — as men, the study found. There’s the word of the day, Overconfident! Overconfidence sank the Titanic!
“Women were more likely than men to have a greater desire for self-control,” the study concluded.
In other words, they trade less and earn more.
When showing property to a couple here in the mountains of East Tennessee, 90% of the time, it is the wife that will make or break a deal. Two things may sale a woman on a house, the kitchen, and the master bath. The bigger, the better. Occasionally you will come across a woman that doesn’t care so much about the kitchen but concentrates on the living area or play area for the kids. Cater to a woman’s like and dislikes and she will march her husband to the closing table once you find what fits her bill.
With the Sevier County area primarily being the melting pot of the Smokies, you see woman from all walks of life; Cooks, Gardeners, Farmers, Equestrian riders, Cosmetologists, Attorneys, Bank Managers, and Doctors, etc. It is not surprising to show a house to a woman that could care less about the kitchen, she doesn’t cook, or about the size of the master bathroom, she’s not in there all the time. She will be the one to be more concerned about the garage size, where she can house her ATV that she rides through the woods or at Douglas Lake in Sevierville, TN on the weekends. There are also those that would live in a 900 SQ FT home as long as it has a large yard and lots of flower beds so she can garden.
