It’s the 26th annual Dolly Parton Parade!

While this is completely off the subject of Property or Real Estate for Sale in Sevierville, Tennessee, and for those that do not live in this area, I wanted to post a quick info-mercial about this evening's festivities here in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. 

This evening at 6 p.m. is our 26th annual Dolly Parton Parade in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I also wanted to announce that this year's parade will have a newcomer participating along with her co-workers on the Texas Roadhouse float in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  This new comer to the parade scene is my daughter, Brittany.

Since Brittany started working for Texas Roadhouse she has joined their dance team which performs locally in special events such as the Dolly Parton Parade.   The Texas Roadhouse folks have such fun doing this!

Dolly has conquered many obstacles in her 65 years (Wow!  65) and has helped her hometown to grow and become one of the top rated vacation destinations in the U.S. with the inclusion of her two theme parks, Dollywood and Splash Country water park, and also Dixie Stampede.  



Dolly Parton attended high school at Sevier County High with my mother, Brenda Gregory.  They had study hall class together Dolly's senior year where, as mom tells me, Dolly wrote several songs that apparently never made it to the recording studio.  Mom had a copy of a few of these songs that she kept for years, but when my grandmother broke up house keeping,  the songs disappeared.  What would they be worth today, wander?

  This was her real hair back then! Mom said that she brought a "toothbrush" to school and curled her hair with it each morning in the school restroom!  She said Dolly had the most beautiful, naturally curly hair.

This year, the parade organizers have Mary McDonough, who played Erin on “The Waltons,” and who’ll be in town to sign copies of her book, “Lessons From the Mountain: What I learned from Erin Walton.”   The gentleman that played Erin Walton's husband on the TV show also has ties to the Smokies.  His mother was from Knoxville,Tennessee and attended church with my mother.  Seems as though these mountains have given a lot to the Hollywood scene. 

While this parade is ostensibly — and rightfully — a salute to Dolly, it’s just as much of a salute to the people who put it on. Without the leaders of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and the residents themselves, this would not have become and continue to be the event that it is. There will be dozens upon dozens of floats, marching bands, performers from local theaters, homecoming queens, classic cars, acrobats, baton twirlers, police cars, fire engines, public officials — and the list just goes on and on. So many local folks are participating in the parade that even if you don’t go to get a glimpse of Dolly (or Mary McDonough), chances are that you’ll see somebody you know marching by. 


Those of you that are located near Pigeon Forge, Tennessee should come out early to get a good spot along the parkway and be sure to yell "Yee Ha" when the Texas Roadhouse float goes by.  Traffic gets so heavy that the county school system dismissed schools at 2 p.m. for this parade each year.  You think Dolly ever imagined that one day her school system would dismiss schools early because of her parade?  Just shows where life can take you if you don't hold back.

Dolly has made several contributions to the county tax pocket with her property tax payments made on all the Real Estate Property she owns here in Sevier County, Tennessee.  Her mother's home is close to Douglas Lake, just off of HWY 66 in Sevierville, Tennessee and known to us locals as "Red Top".  Dolly personally owns several tracts of Sevier County Property in Sevierville, Tennessee.  I'm certain she can afford the tax bill though!
